Requirements

All Visa Waiver Program travelers must present a machine-readable passport at the U.S. port of entry to enter the U.S. without a visa. Otherwise, a U.S. visa is required.

In addition, effective Jan. 20, 2010, the Department of Homeland Security is transitioning to enforced compliance of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) requirement for Visa Waiver Program travelers. Therefore, Visa Waiver Program travelers who have not obtained approval through ESTA should expect to be denied boarding on any air carrier bound for the United States.

The Department of Homeland Security, Electronic System for Travel Authorization is a free, automated system used to determine the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. It collects the same information as the paper I-94W form that travelers fill out en route to the United States. Applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel. An ESTA authorization generally will be valid for up to two years, and authorizations will be valid for multiple entries into the United States.

If you're planning on attending the conference and show, it's recommended that you submit an ESTA application as soon as you begin making your travel plans.
