Thomas Buehner, 81, died May 12, 2006. A 42-year GCSAA member, Mr. Buehner served in World War II before working as superintendent for Highland CC in Pittsburgh. He also worked for Fox Chapel GC, Pittsburgh; Nemacolin Trails GC in Farmington, Pa.; and Black Hawk GC in Beaver Falls, Pa. Mr. Buehner retired in 1991 and was awarded GCSAA’s Quarter Century Award in 1989. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas J. Buehner; and his brother, Robert Buehner, and is survived by his daughter-in-law, Trilby Buehner; his grandsons, Raymond and Joseph Buehner; his step-grandchildren, Trilby Pollaro and Robert Schweizer; his step-great-granddaughter Trilby Lynn Pollaro; several nieces and nephews; and his wife, Ruth Buehner, 203 Golf Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15229.

Albert Foster, 86, died July 16, 2006. A 47-year GCSAA member, Mr. Foster began his work in the turfgrass management industry at Alpine CC in 1946 through 1958, when he started work as superintendent for Hackensack G&CC, Oradell, N.J. He worked there for 23 years before retiring in 1981. Mr. Foster received a purple heart for his service in World War II. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Carl Kennedy III; his sister, Edith Foster; his grandson, Carl Kennedy IV; and his wife, Henrietta Scheffler Foster, 885 Liverpool Circle, Manchester, NJ 08759.

Robert Mashburn Jr., 68, died July 17, 2006. A 38-year member of GCSAA, Mr. Mashburn is a third-generation superintendent. He started working as an assistant superintendent in 1962 for Carmel CC in Charlotte, N.C., where he worked for two years before going to Quail Hollow CC, also in Charlotte, until 1967. Mr. Mashburn then made his start as a superintendent at Rolling Hills CC, Monroe, N.C., before going back to Quail Hollow CC to serve as its superintendent in 1968 through 1985. He also worked for Arcadian Shores GC in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a few years before taking over at Hope Valley CC in Durham, N.C., where he recently celebrated his 18th year. Mr. Mashburn was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Sells Mashburn, in 2004, and his father, Robert L. Mashburn Sr. He is survived by his mother, Zora Mashburn Montgomery; his daughter, Tonya Mashburn; three grandchildren: Maddison, Peyton and Chandler Batson; and his daughter, Dana Batson and her husband, Russell, 22 Stono Dr., Greenville, SC 29609.
