GCM NewsWeekly

The courses of legendary golf course architect Donald Ross are certainly no stranger to major championship golf, but even the old master would be taken aback by this month’s embarrassment of riches. Three Ross designs will be hosting major events in August — the U.S. Senior Open is at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colo., the U.S. Amateur visits Pinehurst (N.C.) No. 2 and, finally, the PGA Championship is at Oakland Hills Country Club’s South Course, previewed in this issue of GCM by senior staff writer Terry Ostmeyer.

Also, a former superintendent and turfgrass educator explains why he believes there is no replacement for face-to-face classroom education in a story authored by Carmen Magro, CGCS.

This month’s cover photo, taken by free-lance photographer Fabrizio Costantini (http://fabriziocostantini.com), features Steve Cook, CGCS, MG, the golf course manager at Oakland Hills and a 26-year member of GCSAA.
