GIS: Solutions around every corner
Elsewhere in this issue of GCM there’s an introduction to a special section concerning this month’s Golf Industry Show that carries the headline, “Home, sweet Orlando.” That strikes me as particularly appropriate, considering that this will be the sixth conference and show to be held in that sunny southern city since 1990, and that GCSAA members always reward our visits to the venue with high attendance. This year’s version of the GIS is strengthened, as was last year’s, by the combined participation of GCSAA and presenting partners the National Golf Course Owners Association and the Club Managers Association, as well as supporting organizations the Golf Course Builders Association of America, the American Society of Golf Course Architects and the National Golf Foundation. Education, networking and the trade show, as always, form the hub of the event, with 21 new seminars joining more than 100 popular educational offerings — for a 20 percent increase from last year — that will go in depth on course maintenance, business management and professional development strategies. As for the trade show, what can I say? For those of you who have never seen it, it’s like a world unto itself, with approximately 1,100 exhibitors, more than 300,000 square feet of exhibit space and solutions for your golf course around every corner at five solution centers, which have become a hallmark of the GIS the past few years. Each center offers demonstrations and case studies by industry experts that zero in on an area of golf course, facility or club management. I encourage you to walk the show with your facility owners or managers and learn together about the latest and greatest in golf course management products and tools. Also visible in Orlando will be acknowledgment of those companies who are supporting the association by participating in GCSAA’s Partner Recognition Program (PRP), which provides year-round exposure opportunities based upon the company’s level of investment. You’ll see GCSAA industry partners recognized at the Platinum, Gold and Silver levels in many places at the Orange County Convention Center. Each level provides partners unique communications and recognition options to position themselves in the marketplace. (To see a list of all the PRP companies, see Pages 72-73.) As was noted at the program’s announcement last fall, it really is an investment program, with the funds provided by these companies supporting the creation of educational opportunities, research programs and career resources and tools for GCSAA members. Please take some time to thank our industry partners as you make your way around the trade show this year. But of course, none of this could happen without the most important participants — GCSAA members — who over the years have built this event into one of the 100 largest conventions in America. You deserve the credit for this accomplishment and it’s you who will reap the rewards — but only if you attend. I hope to see you in Orlando! |
