Brett Hull

U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer

The son of legendary hockey star Bobby Hull, Brett Hull went on to become a star himself.

Brett Hull ended his 19-year hockey career in 2005. He reached No. 3 on the career goal scoring list with 741 goals — only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe reached the back of the net more times. Hull hoisted the Stanley Cup twice in his illustrious career, in 1999 as a Dallas Star and in 2002 as a Detroit Red Wing. Hull was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in October 2008. He and his father are the only father-son duo to be members of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Though Hull no longer laces up the skates, he hasn’t left the game behind. The former right winger is now in his first full season as co-general manager of the Dallas Stars.

"There’s nothing like a well-groomed golf course. The condition of the golf course is No. 1, that’s what you’re doing all day — playing the golf course. You’re not talking with the pro or having a cocktail in the lounge. You’re out there on the golf course trying to enjoy the experience.

With the way the grasses have come along — from all the different strains of zoysia and bermuda, and bentgrass and ryegrass — even the munies are so well-kept now, they’re all beautiful.

I always look at the bunkers. If a golf course has good bunkers, I think the superintendent is very good, because those are the hardest things to maintain, with drainage, and rain and the different kinds of sand. That’s the thing that I look at to see if there’s a good superintendent, because anyone can mow. "
