Bethpage bound
Looking for one-of-a-kind access to Bethpage’s preparations for the 2009 U.S. Open? Then make the GCM blog, From the Desk of GCM, a regular stop during championship week. You’ll find behind-the-scenes updates from the maintenance facility, stories that didn’t make it into this month’s preview story and news and features from one of golf’s major events with a decided golf course management spin. Coverage begins Sunday, June 14.

Controlling energy costs
Energy is a hot topic and a major concern for superintendents who are simultaneously attempting to be environmentally and fiscally responsible managers. In the research section of this month’s GCM, Andy Staples, president of Golf Resource Group Inc. in Phoenix, starts his three-part series on energy by showing superintendents how to save on utility bills. To see a sample utility bill from a Southern California golf course, go to the research section of GCM online and click on “energy bill."
