After almost two years of struggles and hardships, a few glimmers of economic hope have begun to show themselves. Unemployment rates have leveled off, the stock market has slowly climbed and there is some encouraging news in the housing markets. But have any of those glimmers made their way into the golf business? In this issue of GCM, we take an in-depth look at several facets of the golf course management industry — from construction and design, to turfgrass seed sales and research — and assess their economic health. Also, we look back at San Diego and the 2010 GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show. This month’s cover photo, by Aiden Bradley (golfcoursephotography.com), features the 10th hole at Kukio Golf Club in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, where 27-year GCSAA member Scott Nair is the Class A superintendent.
