Congratulations Ramon Salas

Ramon Salas, equipment technician at Azusa Greens Country Club in Azusa, Calif., is the winner of the first ever Most Valuable Technician Award, presented by Foley United and Golf Course Management magazine.

A team of industry judges narrowed the field of 67 nominees to three finalists: Salas, along with Herb Berg at Oakmont (Pa.) CC, and Cliff Henning at Whistling Straits GC in Kohler, Wis. Following an online voting phase, Salas emerged as the overall winner, earning him national recognition and a $2,500 cash prize. The award was created to honor the hard work and dedication that these unsung heroes bring to the golf course every day.

"I can't believe it," says Salas, shaking his head. "I know there were a lot of good people nominated, a lot of very smart people and to be among those kinds of people was just great for me. Then, to win the whole thing is just very exciting. I can't believe it happened to me."

Jim Letourneau, president of Foley United, says, “We deal with a lot of technicians,  literally worldwide. And when you run into these people like Ramon – they are very special in that there is no task they cannot do, there is no task too large for them or impossible to do. They find a way to do everything.”
