Gulf Coast GCSA holds 10th Annual Turfgrass Expo and Field day

GCGCSA donates $8,000 for greenhouse expansion at the University of Florida - West Florida Research and Education Center

The Gulf Coast Golf Course Superintendents Association, which includes members from south Alabama and northwest Florida, donated $8,000 to the University of Florida, West Florida Research and Education Center in Jay, Florida for the addition of a 30’ x 48’ greenhouse facility. The greenhouse facility will enable researchers to conduct more effective research on turfgrass fertility and turfgrass management similar to golf course conditions of the GCGCSA.

In order to raise these much-needed funds, the chapter co-hosted the 10th Annual Gulf Coast Turfgrass Expo and Field Day on Wednesday, June 16th at the West Florida Research and Education Center - Research Farm in Jay, FL along with the University of Florida. The Gulf Coast Turfgrass Expo and Field Day attracted over 325 turfgrass managers, researchers and industry vendors from all over the southeast with the highest concentration on the Gulf Coast. The event included tours of current research being conducted at the Research Farm including research conducted for golf course superintendents as well as other turfgrass managers, a vendor exposition, equipment demonstrations, chipping and putting contest, lunch and CEU workshops on equipment calibration, insect identification and management, weed identification and management and pesticide safety and usage.

Ground breaking for the greenhouse is scheduled for this Fall. For more information about the Gulf Coast Golf Course Superintendents Association or the Gulf Coast Turfgrass Expo and Field Day, please contact Tricia Roberts.
