The Northern Ohio Golf Course Superintendents Association has been
helping the community by volunteering their time and
energy in various events for the past several years.
We host field trips to our golf course for junior high students in the Spring, which allows us to introduce young people to the wonderful game of golf. Each Fall, we conduct a food drive by collecting cash and canned goods that are donated to local hunger centers.
The NOGCSA is also involved in a wonderful program called Victory Gallup. Victory Gallup is a therapeutic riding program for children with disabilities and other special needs. The children get a tremendous sense of accomplishment from riding and being around the horses. Many of these children have difficulty walking and the opportunity to command a horse is a thrill. The NOGCSA helps out by overseeding the horse pastures in the Fall. The area superintendents and equipment vendors donate their time and equipment to repair the pastures. The NOGCSA became involved with the Victory Gallup Program because the mother of one of our local superintendents, Bryan J Sweitzer, has volunteered her time for years and mentioned that the fields desperately need help. Members bring overseeders, drag mats, discs and tractors over to Victory Gallup to overseed each Fall. The project only takes a few hours during a Fall day, but it helps out a wonderful organization. We are constantly looking for ways that we can help in the community and the Victory Gallup Pasture Overseeding Program is a wonderful fit for our association.
