20th Annual
Collegiate Turf Bowl

University of Maryland wins 2014 Turf Bowl

Team #52 from the University of Maryland takes home top honors this year at GCSAA's 2014 Collegiate Turf Bowl. This first-place team includes Matthew Park, Brian Hogan, Ryan Higgins, Brent Waite and advisor Dr. Kevin Mathias. Second place goes to #56 from Michigan State University, while #49 from Penn State earned third-place honors.

Rounding out the top 10 are: #18 from Cal Poly Pomona, #23 from Purdue University, #20 from Iowa State University, #46 from Rutgers University, #15 from University of Massachusetts-Amherst, #60 from The Ohio State University and #5 from Kansas State University.

The panelists for this new event are Tom Vlach, CGCS, Director, Golf Course Maintenance Operations at TPC Sawgrass (Home of The Players); Tom Brodeur, Director, Golf Course Maintenance Operations at TPC Boston (Home of the Deutsche Bank Championship); and Mike Crawford, CGCS, Director, Golf Course Maintenance Operations at TPC Sugarloaf (Home of the Greater Gwinnet Championship).


Turf Bowl Kick Off Reception

All Turf Bowl participants are encouraged to attend this event to kick off the 20th Annual GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition, presented in partnership with John Deere Golf. Teams will have the opportunity to pre-register for the exam. A networking reception will be provided for teams, advisors and superintendent mentors.

20th Annual Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition

8 - 11:30 a.m.
Room 109-110, OCCC

The 20th Annual GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl exam will feature a written case study as well as a wide variety of multiple choice, short answer and identification questions covering agronomic, business and financial management aspects of the superintendent profession.

This exam is for undergraduate students only in teams of up to four participants. Each participant must be a member of GCSAA, a registered attendee of the GCSAA Education Conference and be registered as part of a team on site before the exam or at the Wednesday evening reception.

A total of $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the top 10 teams during the Closing Celebration.


Closing Celebration

5 - 6:30 p.m.
Valencia Ballroom, OCCC

Presented by John Deere Golf

New this year, the announcement of the prize winners for the 20th Annual GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl will be held on the larger stage of the Closing Celebration. Turf Bowl teams will be recognized by all attendees at this event, which includes a performance by Bill Engvall, one of the country's most popular comedians. There will be a reserved section of seating for the Turf Bowl teams for the entire program.

Turf Bowl Tweet Rally:
Be true to your school

The 20th Annual GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl, presented in partnership with John Deere, is organizing its first-ever Tweet Rally.

Support your school and help them earn additional cash by tweeting #GIS14_Turfbowl#<insert school name> between Jan. 1, 2014, and 3 p.m. (Eastern) Feb. 6, 2014. The school with the most votes will receive the School Spirit Award and $650 from John Deere.
