Solution Challenge winners

The 2006 Solutions Challenge made winners of 21 GCSAA members who stopped at 20 participating exhibitors and solved a golf course or facility problem. In all, 562 entered the Challenge, and all participants received a print of a golf legend, illustrated by David Pursell, president and CEO of Pursell Technologies Inc. The winners were:

  • Mark Douglas, CGCS at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chadron, Ohio, who won the contest’s grand prize, a seven-day Carnival Cruise for two, donated by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Brian A. Cromack from Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingston, R.I., who won a $1,000 Home Depot gift card, donated by Advan LLC
  • Timothy J. Ross from the Golf Course at Riverview in Bowling Green, Ky., who won 14 bags of Andersons 14-0-14 fertilizer with Merit insecticide and DG Pro, donated by Andersons Golf Products
  • John V. Stawovy, CGCS at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pa., who won one case of two jugs of Arena, donated by Arysta Life Science
  • Jason R. Phipps from Olde Oaks Golf Club in Haughton, La., who won $1,000 of Insignia fungicide, donated by BASF
  • David R. Dettmer, CGCS at the TPC at Piper Glen in Charlotte, N.C., who won $1,000 worth of services, donated by Diversified Manufacturing Inc.
  • Gabriel T. Nealon from Cross Winds Golf Course in Bowling Green, Ky., who won a flat-screen TV, donated by DryJect/Advanced Agro Technologies
  • Sean B. Remington from Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hills, Pa., who won two tons of Axis soil amendment, donated by Eagle-Picher Filtration & Minerals.
  • Blake McMaster from the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Ile Bizard, Quebec, Canada, who won a golf trip for two to Walla Walla, Wash., donated by Ewing Irrigation
  • Dana R. Hancock from Cummaquid Golf Club in Yarmouth Port, Mass., who won one ton of Excellerator, donated by Excell Minerals
  • Todd L. Temple from North River Yacht & Golf Club in Tuscaloosa, Ala., who won a $1,000 Simon gift card, donated by Greencare International
  • Steven Bennett from Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah, who won a trip for two to Las Vegas, donated by Honeywell Ammonium Sulfate
  • Dale R. Morrison, CGCS at Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., who won one case each of G875 TTS part-circle golf rotors and G870 TTS full-circle golf rotors, donated by Hunter Industries
  • James R. Starnes from Crooked Creek Golf Club in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., who won a Husqvarna 326 LDx with trimmer, clean sweep, hedge trimmer and pole saw attachments, donated by Husqvarna
  • Hidalgo L. Nagashima, CGCS at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull, Conn., who won a single-row marking system with installation kit, donated by Kirby Markers
  • John M. Krutilla, CGCS at Janesville (Wis.) Country Club, who won $1,500 of Seed Starter 3, donated by Lesco Inc.
  • Rich Lane, CGCS at Hackensack Country Club in Oradell, N.J., who won an Aqua Series Deluxe Fractional Aerator, either 1/4 or 1/2 horsepower, donated by Otterbine Barebo Inc.
  • Timothy M. Camp from Happy Hollow Club in Omaha, Neb., who won one Kestrel BATPak, donated by Phoenix Environmental Care
  • William Lopez from the Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio, Calif., who won five pails of Cutless G landscape growth regulator and two cases of Junction fungicide/bactericide, donated by SePRO Corp.
  • John D. Franz from Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas, who won a mini Extreme Course Makeover, donated by Standard Golf Co.
  • Scott R. Young, CGCS at Canterwood Golf & Country Club in Gig Harbor, Wash., who won a $1,000 gift certificate for online shopping at Roger Dunn Golf Shops, donated by West Technology Systems Inc.
